Appearance: Luffy stands at a little bit over 5 and a half feet. He's a pretty lanky dude, owing to some of the most absurd metabolism you ever did see. Lots of fighting, as well as his grandfather's...special brand of training has led to him actually being pretty muscular too. He has an unkempt head of black hair sitting atop his boyish brow. His clothes usually consist of about four items: his sandals, his knee-length blue shorts, his red button-up tank top, and always always always his straw hat. If the straw hat isn't on, there's your indication that thing's are pretty serious. Underneath his left eye is a small scar from when he...jabbed a knife into it as a kid.
Personality: Boundlessly energetic, endlessly optimistic, brave to points of stupidity, and loyal to his friends (I won't say nakama, you can't make me) to the point where he'd fight an entire army just to protect one of them. This sounds simple, and it is. Luffy is an incredibly simple-minded person. In fact, he's...well, he's a moron. He sees things in the most simple and straightforward way possible. This can, actually, be something of an advantage at times, since he has an uncanny ability to see things as they truly are, past all the doubts and complications most people would normally have. Something else that tends to both harm and help him is his seeming inability to feel fear. Not even the idea of death scares him. By his own words, "If I die, that'll be that." This is tied very closely to his love of adventure. He can't have an adventure if he's afraid of dying. He can't live his life to the fullest if he's afraid of the consequences. Besides, if he dies, that'll just be his next adventure!
Luffy is mature in his own way as well, and this usually surfaces when a friend of his needs his help. Friendship is the most important thing in the world to him. He admits that he needs his friends with absolutely no problem at all. He admits that he'd be lost without them, so he treasures every last one of them. If he asks you to be his friend (which he can sometimes do with startling ease), he'll treat you as if you've been his friend for life, unconditionally. If a friend of Luffy's is in danger, he'll do anything and everything to help them, even if they point blank refuse any of his assistance. If somebody hurts a friend of his in any way, he loses his temper very quickly, and will generally refuse to let whoever hurt them get away with it. Holding his friendships so dearly, he expects others to do the same. If he sees somebody abusing or betraying their friends (and/or underlings), he'll take that person the hell down. Even if those being harmed are his enemies already. Odds are, he'll still take them down too, afterwards.
Abilities: Luffy is a rubber man. He ate the Gomu Gomu Fruit, one of the mystical Devil Fruits. In exchange for forever stealing his ability to swim (or even take a very comfortable bath), his entire body is now made out of rubber. He can stretch any part of his body at will, and has figured out dozens, if not hundreds of ways to use this to his advantage. As some of his techniques prove, even his organs and bones are capable of stretching. He also has superhuman strength and speed, only outdone by his enormous willpower. He's capable of destroying buildings with absurd ease, can run faster than the naked eye can even detect, and...he simply refuses to stop fighting, until he's won. Regardless of his own refusal, he can still be stopped, though. He's been stabbed through his stomach (twice), had all of the water sucked out of his body, and been completely frozen. However, it's just another testimony to his absurd strength that he's come back from all of these and beaten the crap out of the people who've done it to him ('cept for ice guy).
For Daisychain, Luffy will retain his tough and chewy rubber body, but his strength and speed will both be capped. He'll still be tougher than a normal person of his size, to the point where he could probably lift somebody quite a bit bigger than him with only a little bit of strain, and put somebody's lights out with a few good knocks to the cranium, but none of the mast-lifting bedrock-shattering, spine-breaking stunts he can do normally. Luffy's strongest technique, Gear Second, will for the most part, not be used, and when they are used, their strength will be reduced and their detrimental effects will be increased. Gear Second is activated by using Luffy's legs as pumps to pump his blood faster, getting nutrients through his body far quicker, increasing his strength and speed. However, by increasing the rate of his metabolism so drastically, Luffy depletes the stores of nutrients in his body far quicker than normal. Because of this, he can only use the technique for a short amount of time. And when he does, the stress he puts on his organs, not to mention the fact that he's essentially starving his body of nutrients, is incredibly negative for his health in the long term. Gear Third, Luffy's ability to inflate his bones, and thus increase the size of certain parts of his body to gigantic proportions, won't be in use. For the sake of both limiting Gear Second's effectiveness and...for the sake of the supply centers having supplies for more than a week or two, Luffy's insane appetite will also be curbed. Also, indiscriminately stretching his body will be more tiring, so Luffy's bigger techniques, like Gomu Gomu Storm, Gomu Gomu Gatling, will be off-limits for the most part.

He...really has no capacity for planning at all, and usually only prevails due to his willpower and adaptability. By his own admission, Luffy's quite dependent on his friends, but this is a bit truer than even he knows. Luffy always gives his 100% to save a friend if they're in danger, but in the case where this isn't enough...he's really not prepared to deal with the consequences. Failing to protect his friends, and losing them as a result, completely destroys Luffy's spirit, for a while at least. While he recovers from this at his own pace...don't expect the rubber man to bounce back from that immediately.
Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider. Screw city, state and country, he's from a different world altogether. Oddly enough, the concept of a gigantic monster terrorizing a city isn't particularly foreign to him though.

As young man, he met a pirate by the name of Shanks, and befriended the man and his pirate crew. He always wanted to join Shanks's crew, but couldn't, as he couldn't even swim (which was later complicated by the fact that he ate the Gomu Gomu Fruit, rendering him unable to swim forever). Eventually, after an entirely unnoteworthy meeting between Luffy, Shanks, and a mountain bandit, Shanks left Luffy's village for good, leaving his straw hat to Luffy, with the promise between the two that one day, Luffy would become the Pirate King and return the hat to Shanks.
10 years later, Luffy began his journey to become the Pirate King, starting as captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. Through his journey, he's made a crew out of himself and nine people, and considers each one a great friend. He's fought the Shichibukai (Seven Pirate Lords; for the uninformed, seven really bad dudes), a self-proclaimed god, lots of other pirates, and the World Government many times, and most times, he's come out on top. That changed, however, after he made it through the first half of the Grand Line, and went to Shabondy Archipelago, to enter the "New World", the second half of the Grand Line, where Luffy's journey would become worlds harder than it had before. At the Shabondy Archipelago, he and his crew ran into an admiral of the World Government, Kizaru, as one of the Shichibukai, Bartholomew Kuma. Kuma's Devil Fruit ability scattered each and every one of the Straw Hat pirates before Luffy's eyes. Fatigued, without any of his crew, and completely defeated, Luffy collapsed and broke down into tears. The last thing he saw was Kuma's words that the two wouldn't meet again after that, and he was gone.
